Betty Joann Howard

The staff of Sprowl Funeral and Cremation Care are compassionately serving the family of Betty J. Howard, 83, Indianapolis, who passed away June 6, 2021.

Mrs. Betty Joanne Howard was born June 14, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana and was the only daughter to Mr. Cornelius and Mrs. Willa Mae Lee.  She was married to  Veteran, James Donald Howard and shared two daughters, Sheena Yvonne Hunter and Cheryl Renee Lowery.

She attended elementary school at IPS #26 and Arsenal Technical High school.  She worked at the City County Building as a keypunch operator, the State Office Building as an information clerk and later retired from the Indiana State Department of Family and Children Services as a secretary. 

She attended Christ Temple Apostolic Assembly where she was a choir member and worked in hospitality.  She then became a member at Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Church where she was involved in the Transportation Ministry, Sisterhood Auxiliary Ministry as Secretary, the Women's Choir, and worked with the pantry outreach ministry.  She loved her church family.  Growing up, Betty had a hobby of skating at a place called The Skating Arena and would share with her children about her experiences there.  She was a devoted student of the bible and would regularly be caught singing around the house at any given moment.  Betty had a passion for the people, she would cook, clean and attend to their needs; all from her heart.  She made them feel very comfortable and would love on whomever needed her love.  She was not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and ministered to those who didn’t know him, as he was her God & King.   She had a beautiful voice to all that heard her sing and always received compliments of what a sweet, kind, beautiful person she was.  She was a loving, dedicated, patient, wonderful, and caring Wife, Mother, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother.  If anyone was in need, she would be there for them.  She was so uplifting and encouraged her children to be better and not to quit, no matter what.  She was a prayer warrior and prayed for her family to be saved.  She believed God for their salvation and lived a Godly life before them.

Betty went home to be with the Lord in Paradise on June 6, 2021.  She will be deeply missed.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James and her mother and father.   She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Sheena and Cheryl , her son in law Stevie, two Granddaughters, Christina and Karlena, a Grandson in law, Johnny , three Great-Grandsons, Jayvauhn, Jace and Johnny, and a host of sister and brother in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A visitation has been scheduled for Friday, June 18, 2021 from 10 AM – 11 PM with the Celebration of Life to begin immediately following at 11PM at Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Church, 4007 N Sherman Dr., Indianapolis, IN  46226.  Please pray for the family as they mourn the passing of their loved one.
