Mr. Derrick Wayne Ransom, Sr. was the middle son of three sons and a daughter born to Carrie and Andrew Ransom on June 15, 1954 in Indianapolis, IN.
Derrick received his primary and secondary education in the Indianapolis Public School system. He attended School #42 and graduated from Shortridge High School in 1972. In 1978, Derrick completed trade school as a Journeyman Electrician. He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers #481 and had a career spanning 4 decades until he retired in 2010.
Derrick married Diane Hardin, also of Indianapolis, on July 10, 1976 and to this union, three children were born: Derrick, Jr., Darryll and Deirdra.
Derrick professed his belief in Christ and was baptized at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Theron Williams.
Derrick took great interest in coaching and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He positively impacted the lives of many young people over his years as a volunteer coach in multiple sports.
In his leisure time, Derrick enjoyed athletic competition at all levels and became an avid bowler and golfer during his retirement.
Mr. Derrick Wayne Ransom, Sr. died on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at the age of 66. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew, and his brother, Gerald.
He leaves to cherish and honor his memory: his mother, Carrie Spurlin Ransom; brothers William Ransom (Joyce) and Jerome Ransom; sister, Denise Strickling; sons, Derrick W. Ransom, Jr. (Karen) and Darryll W. Ransom (Kelly); daughter, Deirdra D. Ransom; mother to his children, Diane Hardin Ransom; his grandchildren, Kailah, Drew, Maia, Adriana, Kalea and Laila; and a host of nieces, nephews, beloved family members, other loved ones and friends.
