Ms. Dolly Mae Berry Kirkwood, a long-time resident of Indianapolis, Indiana died peacefully at the age of 94 on Wednesday November 24, 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia. She was surrounded by family and loved ones. Dolly was born, raised and attended school in Oxford Mississippi. She lived there with her parents Ben and Vester Berry and her three sisters OD Davis, Nettie Mae McEwen & Qumella Boone and her three brothers Clyde Berry, Ben Berry Jr. and John Lee Berry. Her entire family preceded her in death.
Dolly accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Oxford. She later married Herman Kirkwood and they moved to Memphis, TN. Dolly and Herman did not have children. After the death of her husband, Dolly moved to Toledo Ohio for a period of time, later joining family members in Indianapolis where she was employed at the Broadmoor Country Club and later at the Iron Skillet. Her last employment was as a Foster Grandparent.
The last eight years of Dolly Mae’s life were spent in Atlanta, Georgia where she was cared for by her niece Lois Edwards and her husband Jeff Edwards. Dolly leaves a host of nieces and nephews to cherish her memory. Her body will be flown from Atlanta to Indianapolis where she will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery. A calling is scheduled for Saturday December 4, 2021 from 12:30 pm until 2:30 pm at Sprowl Funeral and Cremation Care located at 1134 W. 30th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46208. A Graveside service will follow the calling.
