Jack Hamilton Vance — known to some as Nike Jays and to many as the funniest person in any room — died peacefully in his sleep on May 3, 2026, at the age of 22. In his short but wildly memorable life, Jack managed to be a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin, a friend, a rapper, a comedian, a Special Olympics athlete, a coffee connoisseur, and, in a twist no one saw coming, an award‑winning knife salesman. He lived with a mix of talents, quirks, and surprises, all delivered with his trademark charm.
Born in Evanston, Illinois to Elizabeth and Geoffrey Vance and raised in Winnetka, Jack graduated from The Cove High School, where he was the life of the classroom and the unofficial CEO of wit, charm, and perfectly timed one‑liners. If there was laughter, Jack was usually the reason.
He is survived by his parents, grandparents (Dr. Peter and Letticia Robinson and Dr. Bradley and Donna Vance), aunts (Emily Robinson and Karin Vance Chickadel), uncle (Ben Chickadel), and cousins (Luca and Enzo Chickadel). Most importantly, he is survived by his siblings — William, Lily, and Eleanor — who were not just his brother and sisters, but his fiercest defenders, favorite audience, co‑conspirators, and lifelong teammates. They grew up with front‑row seats to his jokes, his music, his mischief, and his enormous heart. Their memories of him are woven into who they are, and they will carry him with them in every step of their lives. Jack also leaves behind a large extended family of friends, teachers, counselors, and anyone lucky enough to have crossed his path.
Jack will be missed more than words can convey. May he rest in the peace he worked so hard to find in this world. And may we all be comforted knowing he’s in heaven now — keeping an eye on us, cracking jokes, giving us new nicknames, finding new ways to convince us to buy even more knives, and ready to provide unsolicited advice should we have any “questions or concerns.”
