Jerry Lamar Brown, age 71, passed away on June 30, 2026. A devoted father and a friend to many, Jerry will be remembered for his warm heart, quiet strength, and the lasting influence he had on the lives of those who knew and loved him. His memory will continue to be treasured by family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

Jerry Lamar Brown, 71, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on June 30, 2026, at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.

Jerry was born on May 26, 1955, in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to Lewis Brown Sr. and Rosetta Brown. He was the youngest of thirteen children. Following the death of his mother in 1960, Jerry moved to Indianapolis, where he was raised by several family members, including his Aunt Lela and Uncle Pete.

As a young man, Jerry lived in Los Angeles and Boston before eventually settling in Indianapolis alongside several of his siblings. While in Boston, Jerry had the unique experience of trying out for the Boston Celtics in 1974. He went on to make his living in the manufacturing and trucking industry in Indianapolis.

In June 1977, Jerry married Judy Brown (née Starks) at Christ Temple, where the two had met. Together they raised five daughters. The couple remained married until 2002.

Jerry was a longtime member of Kingsley Terrace and Eagle Creek Church of Christ, as well as Christ Temple and Agape Apostolic Church.

Jerry will be remembered for his jovial disposition, his sense of humor, and his whimsical sayings, including "Turkey Buzzard," "Dere," "Wow," and "Nickels." In retirement, he enjoyed fishing, traveling, and watching Westerns.

One of the funnier things about Jerry was his nickname. To some, he was "Bubble," a name that came about because his sister Delores could not quite pronounce "brother" as a toddler. Others in the family recall it being shortened to "Bubba." Which version is correct remains a friendly debate among the family to this day.

Jerry is preceded in death by his brothers, David, Lewis Jr. (Albert), and Willie; and his sisters, Margaret, Sarah, DiAnna, Velma, Mary Nell, and Delores.

Jerry is survived by his five daughters, Lesley Brown, Lisa Brown, Robin Turner (Derek), Angela Bailey (William), and Karen Barnett (Timothy); his siblings, Edna Royal, Yvonne Moore, and Mary Ann Brame; six grandchildren, Amiah Turner, BrenAnn Turner, Cameron Brown-Barnett, Elijah Brown-Barnett, Carter Turner, and Adalynn Lester; three bonus grandchildren, Wise Bailey, Able Bailey, and Faith Bailey; and dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
