Leota Minor Obituary

“Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.” Sprowl Funeral”

Sprowl Funeral and Cremation Care is compassionately serving the family of Leota E. Minor, 81.

LEOTA EDNA MINOR, 81, from Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Terre Haute, Indiana, transitioned from this life on Sunday, November 7, 2021.  She was born March 12, 1940 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Rev. Clark and Ruth Stewart Edwards. She attended Vigo County Public Schools and Ivy Tech Community College.

Leota was baptized in the name of Jesus and filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost at True Gospel Tabernacle under the leadership of the late Elder Elijah Hunt. She was a faithful member where she worked diligently in the church as an usher, choir member, missionary, and wherever she was needed serving the Lord. She later moved her membership to Bethlehem Temple Church. She enjoyed going to church and treated everyone just like family. Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32- And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Leota was a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She loved spending time with family, friends, and her church community who she showered with her love and kindness. She had a vivacious personality and always made the people around her laugh. She had a heart that was golden. She loved decorating, shopping, cooking, traveling, and most of all praising the name of Jesus.

She worked 26 years for Columbia Records manufacturing some of the very first vinyl records in the industry. She also worked as a teacher’s assistance for Vigo County School Corporation and retired from IDOC Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle, Indiana where she was a Lead Correctional Officer. She was active in the community and loved to volunteer.

She was preceded in death by her late-husband Leon Minor; her parents; one son, Jerry Payne Sr.; one grand-daughter, Ruthena Payne; two brothers, Harrison Frazier and Cleon Edwards; and six sisters, Mamie Bradley, Janice Goldstein, Mary Lamonte, Viola Mayhand, Violet Stewart, and Margaret Stanley.

She is survived by five sons, Joseph Payne of Evansville, IN, Rodney Payne of Indianapolis IN, Clark Minor of Evansville, IN, Mark Minor of Terre Haute, IN, and Leon Minor Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; and two daughters, Cheryl Minor (Dieter Gross) of Crailsheim, Germany, and Jennifer Lawson of Indianapolis, IN; one brother, Rev. Joseph Edwards of Indianapolis, IN; 21 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Jake Ivy; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
