Lou Banks Obituary

"Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss.  Our thoughts are with you & your family during this difficult time." Sprowl Funeral

Lou Emma (Matthews) Banks was born July 29, 1942 to Lula Matthews and B.G. Thompson in Canton, MS. At the age of ten, her family relocated to East Chicago, IN, where she was educated in the public schools.

Lou Emma relocated in March 2006 to her final residence of Indianapolis, IN. Most of Lou Emma’s lifetime was spent caring for others throughout various stages in nursing homes and supported living homes working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, dressing sharp, and doing whatever she could to help anyone who needed her. Lou Emma called Abundant Life Community Church Ministries her church home.

On January 16, 2022, at 12:00pm at Community North Hospital, Lou Emma transitioned into Paradise with the Lord Jesus, whom she had a very personal close relationship with and loved dearly.

Lou Emma gave birth to seven children, two of whom transitioned into heaven before her: Lynell Davis and Alberta Davis. Also preceding her into eternal rest was her mother, Lula Matthews; brother, Sam Matthews; and two sisters, Arlena Dent and Cora Cherry.

Lou Emma leaves to cherish her memories, four daughters: Zola Davis of Kenosha, WI, Glenda (Roger) Townsend of Merrillville, IN, Wilma (Melvin) Pipes of Indianapolis, IN and Tameika (Michael) Parks of Columbus, GA; one son, Willie (Pam) Alford Jr., of Indianapolis, IN; 25 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Williams of Riverside, CA, and Minnie Smith of Indianapolis, IN; one brother, Howard (Veronica) Hart Jr. of Atlanta, GA, a very special niece, Linda Papillion of Los Angeles, CA, her angel on Earth, Cayla Pipes of Indianapolis, IN; a forever son, Joseph Riley of Indianapolis, IN; an endearing grandson, Dante Davis, of Kenosha, WI; a very special & dear friend, Edward Hawkins Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; forever brother, Garland Washington (JR) of East Chicago, IN, and a host of numerous relatives and friends.
