Michael J. McDonald, December 26, 1942 – February 12, 2026
Michael graduated from Muncie Central High School and was proud to be a Bearcat. He served in the United States Air Force and was a business owner. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed bird hunting, mushroom hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities. He also liked visiting the casino. He lived his life in his own distinctive way, following his interests and passions.
He is known in the community for bringing the Purple Hippo to Muncie, which was a recognizable local landmark.
Michael chose to be an organ donor, leaving a lasting impact on those he never met.
He is survived by his son, Michael McDonald; daughter, Janie Upchurch and her husband, Bill; grandchildren Seth McDonald, Gracye McDonald, Gabi Upchurch, and Jesse Upchurch; great-granddaughter Arianna Jane Stewart; and niece Angel Halle Nichols (Scott Long).
The family would like to thank Senior Helpers for the care and support they provided, as well as IU Health Hospice.
Friends and family are welcome to wear camouflage or comfortable, casual attire as we gather to celebrate and remember his life. Please join us on Saturday, February 21, between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM at The Landing at Redwing, 5757 E. Inlow Springs Rd., Muncie, IN 47302, to share stories and memories.
