Rachel Elizabeth Williams, of Brownsburg, IN., whose wisdom and compassion uplifted the lives of family and friends, passed away Feb. 1, 2024.
Rachel was born Dec. 22, 1988, in Terre Haute, Ind., to George and Martha Nyatawa.
Rachel rarely sat still. If she wasn’t darting around backstage at her mom’s orchestra rehearsals or racing her brother into their dad’s room to call “dibs” on the TV, Rachel was forming strong friendships and enjoying fun sleepovers, movie nights and parties. At Terre Haute South High School, she joined the cheerleading squad and excelled as an honor roll student.
Rachel and Jermaine met in 2004 and married in 2007. Together, they finished college and developed their professional ambitions – but their relationship and family always came first. Rachel was an adoring and compassionate wife who celebrated Jermaine’s successes and lovingly passed along the perfect supportive words following any Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeat.
Rachel cherished each and every moment with all four of her kids. She was the mom who never missed a game, performance, event or celebration. Her video-taping skills weren’t perfect, but she never lacked enthusiasm. She aimed to raise her children to care for others, prioritize their education and live for the Lord.
Rachel was baptized in the name of Jesus and filled with the precious Gift of the Holy Ghost at Bethlehem Temple Church, in Terre Haute, IN under the leadership of Suffragan Bishop Glenn Purnell. During her time at Bethlehem she served in many capacities; leader of Beyond the Veil. She assisted in the business office. Rachel later moved to Indianapolis IN and attended Bethel family Worship Center under the leadership of Bishop Russell Hylton. Rachel assisted the Worship dance team, and Cheer team. She participated as a praise team member.
Inspired to connect with people and help them grow, Rachel earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana State University to pursue a career in talent development. She spent seven years at Ivy Tech before moving to Bloom Industries in 2022. She earned a DE&I Certificate from the University of South Florida, became a certified Clifton Strengths coach and earned Bloom’s Talent Development Team MVP Award in 2023.
Rachel sang often, with a voice so sweet and pure. She researched charities and causes that aligned with her passions, and gave generously. She was an incredible dancer. She enjoyed nights of board games and laughter. She’d never turn down a trip to the beach. She meticulously balanced the family budget every month, and she wouldn’t finish until she accounted for every last penny. She cooked fettuccine alfredo and cream corn better than anyone. When she smiled, everyone smiled.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, George and Martha Nyatawa
