Sprowl Funeral and Cremation Care is compassionately serving the family of Robert E Cowans Jr., 61 who passed away on April 19, 2021. Robert was native of Indianapolis, Indiana and was known by all as “Bobby”. He was born June 17th, 1959 to the late Robert and Sophie Cowans Sr.
Bobby spent his youth growing up on the westside of town playing flag football, baseball, basketball and riding bikes with his sidekicks Pervine, Maxie and Pogo where the friendships have lasted over 50 years.
Bobby was baptized at an early age at University United Methodist Church and had recently been attending Pilgrim Baptist Church until his death.
Bobby worked at Link Belt for 15 years along side his father, Robert Sr. and after Link Belt he worked around the city at various jobs until retiring in 2019.
He was briefly married to Barbara where no children were produced, but he did have a son, Brandon Dewayne Scott Cowans that preceeded him in death, August 18th, 1992.
Anyone that knew Bobby, knows how he loved heavy metal music, the only black person in the neighborhood with a love for that specific genre. He would not allow others to persuade him otherwise. He was also known for his willingness to help others whether it was requested or not. Bobby faithfully rang the bell at Christmas time for the Salvation Army for 14 years and was loved by the community.
We will all miss his infectious simile and the shenanigans that he performed throughout his lifetime. Bobby will be forever in our hearts and memories.
Left to cherish his memory are his sisters Angela Cole of Atlanta, GA, Elaine Cowans, Indianapolis, IN. Neice Latisha Cowans, nephews, Roderick Cowans, Ryan Cole, Renaul Cole and Randolph Cole. Great- nieces Skylar Carter, Kayla Woodson, Kennrita Simms, Da’Nae Cole, Summer Rain, Riley Cole. Great-nephews, Ryan Cole Jr., Syre Cole and Brice Cole and a host of family and friends. A Memorial Service Saturday May 1, 2021 from 5pm until 7pm. The memorial service will be at Sprowl Funeral and Cremation Care located at 1134 W. 30th Street, Indianapolis, IN. 46208
